Demetri Scanie
Demetri Scanie is an Economic Development professional and elected Councillor with Cold Lake First Nations (CLFN) for the 2025–2028 term. He has extensive experience in workforce development, community engagement, and strategic project management, leading initiatives that combine economic growth with cultural and social benefits.
Demetri has played a key role in renewable energy projects, including the 20MW Duchess Solar Farm, as well as energy infrastructure, data center integration, and clean technology feasibility studies. His work also spans land-use planning, Indigenous business development, and strategic partnerships with industry and government, all focused on enhancing economic self-sufficiency and long-term wealth for CLFN members.
He holds a Bachelor of Technology from NAIT, a Petroleum Engineering Technology Diploma, and is pursuing a 3rd Class Power Engineering certification. In 2024, he completed the 20/20 Catalysts Program, a leadership program focused on Indigenous clean energy development.
Committed to his community, Demetri integrates youth and elder engagement into his work, fostering intergenerational learning and opportunities. Outside of his professional responsibilities, he is a devoted family man, actively involving his children in entrepreneurial and learning projects that encourage creativity, skills development, and cultural awareness.
